Short answer: If your vehicle has a 3.5 mm AUX input, then yes, it will work, but it’s not ideal. If your vehicle does not have a 3.5 mm AUX input, then no, it’s not compatible. Either way, keep reading to learn how the Bass50 fits into your setup.
How the AUX Wireless Kit Works
The AUX Wireless Kit is specifically designed for vehicles that have a 3.5mm AUX input and do not use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It creates a clean, wireless connection from your phone to your vehicle’s stereo without any installs or mods.
Here’s how the signal flows:
- Your phone connects to the Bass50 via Bluetooth for music playback.
- The Bass50 wirelessly transmits audio via SKAA to the included Trulli SKAA Receiver.
- The SKAA Receiver connects to your vehicle's AUX input using the supplied 3.5mm cable and draws power via USB.
- Your vehicle’s source must be set to AUX to hear audio from the Bass50.
This setup is simple and powerful. However, it’s not intended for use with CarPlay or Android Auto systems, which take over your phone’s audio routing.
How CarPlay and Android Auto handle audio
When you connect to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, your phone routes all audio through the vehicle’s system. This is true for both wired USB and wireless connections.
Because of this, your phone does not normally send audio to another Bluetooth device such as the Bass50 at the same time. The vehicle claims the Bluetooth connection for its own use, so your music apps play through the vehicle’s speakers.
Some Android devices support two Bluetooth outputs at once. In those cases, you may be able to connect both your vehicle and the Bass50, but the phone will route audio in a way that bypasses the Bass50’s SKAA path. This can affect sound quality, introduce latency, and prevent Trulli App features such as Time Correction and EQ profiles from working correctly. We do not recommend this configuration.
Can I use an AUX-to-USB adapter with the Wireless Vehicle Kit?
No. Most vehicle USB ports are for data or charging. They do not accept analog audio. The AUX Wireless Kit requires a true 3.5 mm audio input.
About CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
We are actively developing a Vehicle Kit that will work cleanly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Early prototypes showed promise, but we have more engineering and validation to do before we are ready to release anything. There is no set release window at this time.
If you use CarPlay or Android Auto every day, we recommend sticking with your current setup for now. If your vehicle has a 3.5 mm AUX input and you are comfortable switching sources, the AUX Wireless Vehicle Kit remains a solid option.
We will share updates when there is real news to share, and we appreciate your patience while we work toward a solution that meets our standards for performance and reliability.
